AMENDED plans for seven homes on a site off Watery Lane, Weymouth have just been submitted the Dorset Council after dozens of objections to the original outline.

The development, if allowed, will also include a new bridge over the adjoining brook and a new site road.

The greenfield site is west of the lane with the proposal for three 3-bed homes and four 4-bed homes, all with attached garages.

A previous application for the site was submitted in 2015 but was later withdrawn to await flood data remodelling from the Environment Agency.

The plans were later amended increase the finished floor levels to take the proposed homes above the predicted one in one hundred year flood risk.

In addition to a new site drawing other new documents just submitted to Dorset Council include an ecological assessment of the Pucksey Brook and a letter from the Environment Agency withdrawing its original objection in view of the changes made to the design of the proposed bridge from using culverts, to clear span, although maintaining an objection to the proposed re-profiling of the river channel which it says could lead to increased silt build-up which would impact on wetland wildlife.

The Dorset Campaign to Protect Rural England says it maintains its objection, despite the changes: “tinkering with the river profile and bridge design will not prevent flooding in Watery Lane,” it says.

Others maintaining their objection include the River Wey Society and Weymouth Town Council while Dorset Wildlife Trust has asked for a review of proposals over trees on the site, some of which it fears could suffer root damage from building works, if the application were approved.

Full details of the application, ref 2023/03922, can be seen on the Dorset Council website.
