Police officers have been conducting patrols in north Dorset to help tackle anti-social behaviour and drug crime.

Dorset Police says putting more visible officers on the streets is a priority in its bid to reduce anti-social behaviour (ASB) and drug related crimes across the county.

The force has been calling on members of the public to assist by reporting any suspicious activity within their communities as part of a crackdown.

A share of £1million from a government grant is also set to be given to the police to help tackle ASB, in particular, by providing 'more boots on the ground.'

The latest patrol was in direct response to reports of crimes reported in areas such as Gillingham and Sturminster Newton.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Tonight PC560 had support from SC4768 and patrols were conducted in and around Shaftesbury, Gillingham, Sturminster Newton and Stalbridge town.

"(These) areas received attention following recent reports of drug dealing and ASB, these patrols were in-between work load tasks, and crime enquiries.

"It's imperative that reports are made via the Dorset police website, or by calling 101 / 999, so we know what's going on, where things are happening, and when.

"If we don't know, we cant do anything about it."
