A person was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker at a football ground in Dorset.

The incident is said to have taken place at the Bob Lucas Stadium in Weymouth sometime during or after the football match between Weymouth and fierce rivals Yeovil Town on Monday, April 1. The game started at 1pm.

Police confirmed that two people were arrested at the ground, saying that one was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. The person was then released without charge.

Another was arrested and subsequently charged with breaching a section 35 dispersal order.

The Section 35 dispersal order is part of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 where officers can exclude a person or people from an area for up to 48 hours.

The game was abandoned after 77 minutes due to a medical emergency for an away fan after Weymouth were a goal ahead.

It is not clear at this time if the persons arrested were Weymouth or Yeovil fans.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “I understand two people were arrested at the ground, one was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and subsequently released without charge, another was arrested and subsequently charged with breaching a section 35 dispersal order.”
