PORTLAND DJ Ben Hadwin will be taking on his biggest challenge yet as he will provide 60 hours of non-stop disco music to raise money for two charities.

Ben Hadwin will be staying wide awake as he begins his challenge on Friday, April 12 in aid of the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) and The Life and Soul Charity Trust based in Chickerell.

Mr Hadwin, who is a freemason himself, works for MKM Building Supplies.

He has been DJing for more than 20 years and will be taking on his challenge at The Lugger Inn, a family pub in West Street, Chickerell.

The challenge will begin at 9am on Friday and he will be playing throughout each day and evening until 9pm on Sunday.

It is the third year in a row he has taken on a marathon challenge, having completed a 48-hour nonstop DJ set raising over £4,200 and the year before doing a 36-hour set which raised over £3,200.

Mr Hadwin said he "can't wait" to take on the challenge again but admitted his third time will be his last after making a promise to his wife.

He said: "The past two years I have done a silly challenge to do with DJing, 36 hours in 2022 and 48 hours last year, it has become an annual thing.

"Last year I said I wouldn't do it anymore but people kept asking me when I was doing my next one.

"My wife said I could do it if I promised her it would be the last time.

"I can't wait, it is still over a week away and I want it to be sooner."

Mr Hadwin will be providing a range of music throughout the three days, including a children's disco on Saturday afternoon from 12pm.

The entire 60 hour sting will be live-streamed on Twitch so viewers can watch at all times of the day.

He said he is able to stay awake so long out of the pure enjoyment for DJing.

He added: "A lot of people ask how I stay awake. When you do something you enjoy it does not matter.

"I am stood up on a wooden floor so it isn't comfortable but I am enjoying it.

"The pub closes at midnight, so for the eight hours whilst the pub is closed I have four or five friends who stay with me and those are the times I enjoy it most.

"It is like the first time you have a sleepover with friends, but people can also tune in, the whole thing will be live-streamed."
