An all-male performance of a Shakespearean classic in the backdrop of historical house is coming to Dorset.

The Lord Chamberlain’s Men will put on an outdoor performance of Hamlet this summer in the gardens at the historic Athelhampton House in Puddletown.

The performance will take place on Friday, April 19 and will be similar to original Shakespearean productions with an all male cast in Elizabethan costumes, with period music and dance.

Due to start at 7pm, the performance will run through to 11pm.

Hamlet is thought to have been written by William Shakespeare sometime between 1599 and 1601 where the Danish prince, Hamlet, attempts to carry out revenge against his uncle who murdered Hamlet’s father to seize the throne.

Anyone attending is asked to arrive early and bring your own seat to enjoy atmospheric surroundings in the gardens. A torch is also recommended

Refreshments will be available an hour before the performance starts.

Dorchester Arts are co-hosting the production with The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, who are the country’s premier all male theatre company.

Tickets are £18 for adults, and £11 for people aged under 16 and can be purchased on Dorchester Arts website. For more information and to book tickets visit https://www.dorchesterarts.org.uk/2024/02/12/fri-19-july-hamlet-the-lord-chamberlains-men/
