Stolen goods were seized from a man in Dorchester town centre yesterday.

Several items were reportedly stolen from two shops on Saturday, April 13 with Dorset Police officers detaining and searching a man whilst out on patrol.

The man 'appeared to panic' when he saw the officers, many of whom were out patrolling the town as a peaceful anti-hunt protest took place.

The items included a bottle of Jack Daniels and Grants whiskey, several packages of food items as well as washing detergents. The items were subsequently returned to the shops and enquiries are on going into the thefts.

A spokesperson for Dorset police said:  "Whilst officers were on foot patrol in Dorchester town centre this afternoon, one male appeared to panic and shed some of ‘his load’ on sighting officers walking towards him.

"This led to him being detained for a search and he was found in possession of suspected stolen items. The recovered stock has been returned to two shops in the town and enquiries are ongoing."
