A dad from Burnley has broken Guinness World Record, thanks to his unconventional costume choice at the London Marathon.
An air ambulance paramedic from Clitheroe also broke a record after running the 26.2-mile race in a flight suit.
Adrian Bebb, 39, broke the record for the fastest marathon dressed as a road vehicle, which he said stood at four hours and 27 minutes, and which he beat by six minutes.
In what was his debut marathon, Adrian wore a 5kg costume of a car emblazoned with the Young Lives vs Cancer logo.
He said: “It was all about raising awareness for the charity. Publicising that you’re doing a Guinness World Record, you’re going to raise a bit more interest for the charity.
“It was my first marathon. I’m happy.”
Adrian was raising money for Young Lives vs Cancer, to support his family throughout his daughter’s cancer diagnosis.
He raised more than £2,800 for the charity through his fundraising page.
Sophie Bebb was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia last November.
Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph last year, Adrian said: “Young Lives vs Cancer have played a vital role since diagnosis. They have always been there to provide emotional support.
“Sophie has missed out on months of education, socialising, and the ability to live a normal life. This charity has been there to provide hope and strength ensuring we are receiving all the support to get through treatment.”
Adrian has set up a Facebook group Run For Sophie where people can follow his fundraising journey or make a donation.
Caroline Duncan, from Clitheroe, took on the 26.2 miles along with thousands of others on April 21 - but she had to tackle the marathon in her full flight suit.
Finishing with a record-breaking time of four hours 36 minutes Caroline has set a new record for the ‘the fastest female air ambulance paramedic to run a marathon in a flight suit.
The full suit weighed four kilograms and included the flight helmet and boots that Caroline would normally wear while working for the air ambulance charity.
After months of training, Caroline crossed the finish line on The Mall in London and was presented with her Guinness World Record certificate and medal.
Reflecting on her success Caroline said: “I’m ecstatic about breaking the record at the Marathon, it was tough and a difficult challenge that I didn’t think was 100 per cent possible. But when I was running through the streets and crossed the finish line, I just felt like everyone was behind me!
"I just want to thank everyone for their support before and during the challenge, it’s been an amazing experience!”
Not only has Caroline broken the Guinness World Record but she has raised more than £2,500 for the North West Air Ambulance Charity, which she has worked at for more than 13 years, she said: “I wanted to take on the Guinness World Record title for a couple of reasons; I wanted to try and raise as much money as possible for a charity very close to my heart.
"As I work for this charity, I see the difference first-hand that it can make to our patients' lives.”
