WEYMOUTH Rugby Club is to host three caravan rallies in the coming weeks – helping to boost the club’s coffers off-season.
The Camping and Caravanning Club will hold rallies at the ground for up to 150 pitches on each occasion between May 3rd and 12th; from June 9th to 16th and from July 23rd to August 20th.
The Club has an exemption from planning regulations to allow limited camping and caravan use but still needed to check that the gatherings would comply with Habitat Regulations, mainly involving water, toilet and litter disposal, to protect the environment.
The assessment, approved by Natural England, was needed because the Rugby Club site is within 5km of the internationally recognised Chesil and Fleet Special Area of Conservation, also designated a UNESCO Ramsar site, a wetland area which is protected under an international environmental treaty signed in February 1971 in Ramsar, Iran.
