HEAVY rain and thunder could be on its way to the Isle of Wight this evening (Wednesday).

A yellow Met Office weather warning has been issued for thunderstorms.

It is forecast from around 8pm this evening until 8am tomorrow (Thursday).

The Island was hit by heavy rain over the weekend.

The Met Office says: "Spells of heavy rain are expected this evening and overnight. In some places, there is a chance rain will be accompanied by thunderstorms and frequent lightning, with 20mm to 40mm of rain expected to fall quite widely, with 50mm possible in places.

"In some places much of this rain may fall over a two or three-hour period."

The Isle of Wight Met Service has no weather warning posted, but has stated at 9am this morning there will be heavy rain between 7pm and 4am tomorrow.
