More details have emerged ahead of a popular Dorset food festival's return.

The Dorset Seafood Festival will be held at Weymouth Peninsula on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8.

There were fears that the annual festival would not go ahead when organisers cancelled it in January due to an increase in the site fee, only to announce it was to go ahead three weeks later.

It has been revealed that the festival will remain open until 8pm on the Saturday to allow guests the chance to enjoy the music.

Festival-goers can expect live performances from a line-up curated by local band, the Leggomen which organisers say, will be announced soon.

Olly Coe, lead guitarist for The Leggomen, said: “This is our second year curating the Sound Waves stage at the Dorset Seafood Festival and we’re having to fight bands off at the moment.

"It’s a great event with a vibrant atmosphere, it’s not often you get bands performing acoustically on stage like this and with the sunshine and bay behind us - it’s a great festival vibe.”

The Nook Cocktail Club in Weymouth will be the official sponsor of the Sound Waves music stage at this year’s event.

A host of local restaurants, Dorset foods, regional ales and English wines will be on offer amidst a selection of gifts and crafts.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own camping chairs and to eat, drink and dance in comfort over the Saturday and Sunday.

Sophie Kermani, Festival Director, comments: "We are thrilled to partner with The Nook Cocktail Bar for this year's Dorset Seafood Festival, their commitment to providing exceptional experiences aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver a memorable event for all attendees.

“We are very excited to work with The Nook to keep the Festival open until 8pm on the Saturday, allowing guests to enjoy a sundowner and have a dance."

Gareth Burton, Owner of The Nook Cocktail Club, said: "We are excited to be part of such a beloved community event, The Dorset Seafood Festival is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the best of what our region has to offer, from delicious seafood to talented musicians, and of course the best cocktails in Dorset."

Dorset Echo: To celebrate the launch of the partnership between The Nook and the festival, the cocktail club will be giving away 50 free tickets to the festival on its Facebook page.
