A large cruise ship which boasts a 'magic carpet' which can travel heights of 13 stories above sea level has docked at Portland Port.

The ship, carrying around 2,918 passengers arrived at the port at around 7.40am this morning from Cobh, Ireland.

The ‘luxury’ cruise ship boasts 14 passenger decks and is four years old, sailing under the flag of Malta.

One of the standout features of the Celebrity Apex is its orange cantilevered platform which is suspended along the starboard side of the ship that can move vertically between the top and bottom decks.

The platform is designed to facilitate more seamless tender service and also create more guest space when at sea, reaches heights of 13 stories above sea level.

Inside, the Grand Plaza is inspired by the piazzas of Italy, whilst a Vegas-style casino with a s election of more than 2,015 slot games and 148 table games.

The Resort Deck on the other hand includes a rooftop garden, an adult only pool, a main pool, as well as a terraced pool deck perfect for sunbathing.

Due to covid, the ship’s christening had to be postponed, but the official ceremony eventually took place in 2021, with the ship christened by Reshma Saujani, founder of the non-profit Girls Who Code and author of the bestseller, ‘Brave, Not Perfect.’

Girls Who Code is an international nonprofit organization that aims to support and increase the number of women in computer science.
