A MAN denied charges of physically abusing three cats when he appeared in court.
James Higginson, of Kirtleton Avenue in Weymouth, appeared before Weymouth Magistrates' Court charged with two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
The charges refer to a period between May 24, 2023 and September 2, 2023.
It is alleged that Higginson, aged 19, caused unnecessary suffering to three cats - named Sushi, Tiggy and Chase - by the infliction of physical abuse and he knew or ought to have reasonably known that the act would have that effect or be likely to do so.
Two of the cats died, magistrates were told.
Higginson pleaded not guilty to both counts.
He was released on unconditional bail until a hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday, June 13.
