Minor injuries have been reported after two vehicles crashed in Weymouth causing chaos to traffic.

Two cars into each other at the traffic lights at the bottom of Boot Hill forcing two roads to close and huge delays to traffic in the area.

The collision happened at the junction with Newstead Road and Westwey Road and has left some people with 'minor injuries,' according to Dorset Police.

Fire and ambulance crews also attended the crash which happened at 4.48pm.

Newstead Road was closed from ASDA heading towards its junction with Westwey Road and caused major disruption to traffic. 

A driver attempting to drive down the road was forced to turn around in ASDA car park.

He said: "Cars are having to turn around. ASDA has just become a stream of cars - it's chaos - it is bumper to bumper in the car park."

Westwey Road had also been closed from its junction with Newstead Road and cars were being sent from Rodwell Road down Newstead Road - which added to the the traffic alongthe road as cars turned around in ASDA car park heading from the other direction.

The crash also caused huge tailbacks along Rodwell Road.

Cars heading down Boot Hill could be seen backing up the hill as motorist were directed onto Newstead Road.

Both vehicles were recovered and the roads reopened at 6.26pm.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "A two-vehicle road traffic collision was reported at 4.48pm on Newstead Road.

"Minor injuries were reported.

"Fire and ambulance services are also attending."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 4.43pm on Friday May 17 to a road traffic incident in Weymouth.

"We sent two double-crewed land ambulances to the scene and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Weymouth Community Hospital."
