Crews from an emergency service in West Dorset have issued advice on controlling bonfires.
This follows news that Bridport Fire Station responded to two reports of out of control bonfires in the area yesterday (Wednesday, June 12).
If you do wish to have a bonfire, firefighters advise you to:
- Site bonfires well away from buildings, fences, trees and garden structures
- Have a garden hose to hand in case the fire starts to get out of control
- Never use flammable liquids, such as petrol or paraffin, to start a bonfire.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue, said: “Over the past 24 hours we’ve been called to two bonfires that have gone out of control.
“Bonfires are very common in the summer, but they can get out of control very easily.”
