Residents are being warned of cold callers who have been knocking on doors in Dorchester.
Dorset Police has received reports of door-to-door salesmen who have been cold calling in the Stinsford area of Dorchester.
Cold calling is the act of making uninvited visits to your home with the intention of selling goods or services.
It is reported that the callers were claiming to be ex forces who had fallen on hard times and were selling items.
Dorchester Police has subsequently issued a statement online warning people of the dangers of cold calling as some people may try to sell items at an inflated price.
A spokesperson for Dorchester Police said: “Dorset Police have been made aware that cold callers have been knocking on doors in the Stinsford area of Dorchester.
“They said they were ex forces, fallen on hard times and were selling items.
“Please be mindful when answering the door. Never let anyone into your home that you don't know or don't want.
“Sometimes the items that are sold maybe at an inflated price.
“Any concerns about their manner or presence then please call the police.”
