A warning has been issued after scam callers claiming they worked for a council contacted residents.
Dorset Council have received reports that people have been receiving unsolicited calls regarding building surveys - from people claiming to work for the council.
The council warns that this is not how they contact the public and urges people to be wary of cold callers.
A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: "Recently we've had a few reports of unsolicited calls from people claiming to work for us, regarding building surveys.
"We don't contact members of the public this way. Please be wary of accepting any services via cold calling. If in doubt, contact us directly via our website to check.
"You can also get some great advice on how to spot and avoid scams from our colleagues at Friends Against Scams."
This comes as Dorset Police issue advice about scam phone calls - following reports of scammers pretending to be police over the phone.
