A man has been issued with a Section 59 Warning Notice after driving carelessly around a school area.

The Wyke Regis and Weymouth and Portland Neighbourhood Policing Team responded to reports of "careless" and "inconsiderate" driving yesterday, Tuesday, July 9, at school drop off and collection times in the area of Cross Road and Holy Trinity Primary School.

Concerns had been raised by the public over the driver's inconsiderate parking and anti social driving in the area of the school.

It is reported the man had been driving too fast in a cul-de-sac and beeping his horn while driving up and down the road on repeated occasions after residents challenged him about the manner of his driving.

He was found and issued with a Section 59 Warning Notice which will remain in force for 12 months.

The notice states that the vehicle will be seized if the driver continues to drive in the same way. This will incur a financial penalty to get the vehicle back.

A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: "Wyke Regis and Weymouth and Portland Neighbourhood Policing Team have been out today searching for a vehicle involved in careless and inconsiderate driving at school drop off and collection times in the area of Cross Road and Holy Trinity Primary School.

"This was the second report of driving that fell below what most people would expect of a competent driver especially outside a busy school.

"The driver was caught up with, spoken to and issued with a Section 59 Warning Notice. This is a notice that remains in force for 12 months and states that if the driver continues to drive the vehicle or any other vehicle in the same way then police will seize the vehicle.

"This will incur a financial penalty to get the vehicle back. Please be extra careful when driving around our schools and the children present and adhere to all parking rules and restrictions which are in place for everyone’s safety."

A spokesperson for Dorset Police added: "The incident that led to the section 59 notice being issued occurred at around 8.45am on Thursday, July 4 2024.

"It involved inconsiderate parking and anti-social driving in the area of the school, specifically driving too fast in a cul-de-sac and beeping his horn while driving up and down the road on repeated occasions after residents challenged him about the manner of his driving."
