A man has been arrested in connection with an investigation by detectives into a reported knifepoint robbery in Weymouth.

As previously reported, armed police officers swooped on Maceys convenience store and newsagents on Abbotsbury Road on Friday, April 19, after a man, reportedly in possession of a knife, threatened staff members.

He is said to have demanded money from the till as well as other items before fleeing.

It prompted a major police response with officers, including the armed response team, being alerted to search for the knifeman.

No one was injured although staff and customers were left shocked by the ordeal.

The police helicopter was scrambled to help in the manhunt.

Five police cars could be seen outside the shop - near the junction with Cromwell Road - with the premises cordoned off with police tape.

Following extensive enquiries, led by detectives from Dorset County CID, a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

He has been released on police bail as further investigative work is carried out.
