Puddletown

  • IF YOU have been walking past Hazelnuts After-school club lately and have heard the clicking of knitting needles, I can tell you what they have all been up to!

Thirty-two children from the club whose ages range from five to 12 have been knitting squares to make up into three child-sized blankets to be sent off to Sudan. Each child has knitted a minimum of one square.

The idea was the brainchild of club-leader, Hazel Barrett.

Many of the children had never knitted before, Hazel says, and they learnt from the club leaders as they went along.

The squares have been knitted in bright, attractive colours in plain stitch in double-knitting wool.

Wool has been brought in by the parents, and some has been bought from charity shops.

One child's grandmother knitted extra squares for the blankets, and sent them in with her granddaughter.

Mrs Gough is a very good friend of Hazelnuts, and she sewed all the squares together to make up the finished blankets with very attractive designs.
