BURGLARS fled from a house near Dewlish after being disturbed by the owners.
The two men were spotted as they searched downstairs during the lunchtime break-in at the house in Crowthorne.
Inspector Les Fry of Dorchester Police said: "The residents came downstairs and found muddy footprints and then saw two men in the house.
"They ran off when challenged by the householders."
Police said that the men made off in a silver Ford Mondeo, registration number CE53 CVU.
The men are described as both being in their mid 20s, of stocky build and about 5ft 10ins tall.
One had a dark moustache and was wearing a black and white check jacket.
Police are appealing to anyone who sees the vehicle to contact them on 01305 222222.
