JUST HOW GREEN HAVE YOU BEEN

By Pat Staff, Weymouth resident and supporter of Friends of Lodmoor Country Park

"GREEN issues are a relatively new thing - it wasn't something that was talked about when I was growing up.

"Having said that, I grew up in the war and was taught never to waste anything and to reuse what you can. That message is still relevant today.

"We were one of the few families in our street who didn't have chickens. Instead of putting vegetable peelings in the brown bin like we do now we gave them to the chickens. We used to swap our peelings for six eggs - it was good value.

"I think the older generation has learnt to make the best use of things and not waste food. Some of us get quite upset when faced with big platefuls of food. That's why I like self-service restaurants because you put on your plate what you can manage.

"I'm getting ancient now but I do what I can for the environment. I want to help protect Lodmoor because it's such a lovely area."
