• THIS is Bowleaze Coveway as you very rarely see it - not a parked car in sight! This was the sight that greeted me when I ventured up the Coveway recently to view the preparations for the Wind and Sails spectacular. The police had certainly set out to ensure that the roadway was kept clear, and must have used every cone for miles around to achieve this.
  • IT IS FLU vaccination time again at the Preston Road Surgery. If you have had one before then it is likely you will qualify again, so ring now between 10.30am and 12.30pm or between 3pm and 5 pm. to book a place at one of the Saturday morning clinics on 11 October, 18 October, 25 October or 1 November. If you among the 4,000 people in the area who haven't had one before, or are in any doubt, the top priority category of those eligible for a vaccination are those over 65 years of age, or over 6 months and in one of the risk categories with diabetes, CHD, active asthma or immunosppressed due to medication or treatment.

The next priority is patients in long stay residential homes, then carers followed by any other patients at the doctor's discretion. There's nothing to be afraid of in the vaccination itself - contrary to some myths, it won't give you flu or make you feel terrible. If you are not in a priority group then flu is unlikely to be a serious risk to your health and you are not entitled to a vaccination, but don't be afraid to ring and ask, especially if you are over 65, even if you feel fit and well now.

  • JEAN and Terry Watson recently hosted another in their series of their very enjoyable Preston at home' coffee mornings in support of the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity. As usual there were many delicious home made cakes on offer, plus books and other items and a raffle with a myriad of excellent prizes. Jean and Terry would like to thank all their friends and everyone who continues to support their fundraising for this worthwhile cause. The morning raised a total of £113, including some extra donations, which brings the amount that Jean and Terry have collected for the Breakthrough Charity to over £2,600, which is a great achievement.
