ASPIRING artist Eleanor Johnstone has no hard feelings after missing out on winning a national design competition.

The Year 11 Budmouth Technology College student came fifth overall in the Doodle4Google competition organised by internet search engine Google.

The competition was thrown open to school pupils of all ages throughout the country, with the winner's prize being to have their design featured on Google's homepage for a day.

Eleanor, 15, won the South West heat of the competition in the 14-16 category for her design, entitled Colours of the Seaside.

After going through to the national finals and a public vote, Eleanor's design came fifth in the overall competition.

Her design was beaten in the national 14 to 16-year-old category by that of Daniel Thorne, of Howard of Effingham School, Surrey.

His design, which won the overall competition, appeared on Google's homepage.

Eleanor said: "I'm not really disappointed and I thought that the winning design was probably the best one.

"I think I came second in my competition category and fifth in the competition overall, so I'm happy with what I have done really."

On the Google website, Eleanor said her design represented the 'colourful aspect of my community and shows an anchor which represents the fishing community, beach huts which represent the tourist community and fireworks because Weymouth is such a colourful place full of festivities and fun'.
