A man making his way to an alcohol support meeting has been stopped by police for drink driving.
Officers from Weymouth and Portland Police turned their attention on a man driving down Westwey Road.
Upon pulling him over, they found that he didn’t hold a full license and after speaking with him, noticed that he was ‘clearly intoxicated’ – to which he admitted to.
The driver further admitted that he was on his way to an appointment with a support agency to try and address his drinking.
Officers arrested the man for drink driving, driving other than in accordance with a licence and for having no insurance.
Following a breathalyser test, the man ‘blew three times over the legal drink drive limit of 35 micrograms per 100 millimetres of breath.
A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: “Having dealt with a further possible report of a shoplifting at Asda and driving away we saw a male driving a vehicle on Westwey Road.
“The male didn't hold a full licence and on speaking with him he was clearly intoxicated and admitted to this himself, in fact he was on his way to an appointment with a support agency to try and address his drinking.
“He was arrested for drink driving, driving other than in accordance with a licence and no insurance. He blew almost three times the legal drink drive limit and when he is sober, he will be charged and can expect to receive a lengthy driving ban.”
