• THE Preston Mother and Toddler group are organising another of their very successful discos for youngsters of all ages, this time with a Halloween theme. It will take place on Friday, 31 October in the Scutt Hall between 4pm and 6pm. If you are interested you can obtain further details from Liz Perry on 833475 or by dropping in to the Mother and Toddler group on a Friday mornings between 10am and 11.30am at the Scutt Hall. Any profits from the disco will go towards toys for Group. Liz has asked me to say that the Group also caters for new mums and babies, because they have a special area that keeps the babies away from running toddlers, but they are still able to speak to the other people present without feeling separated from the Group. Sounds a great way to get out of the house and make some new friends.
  • IT WAS nice to see that the completion of the work to lay a new water main along the middle of Preston Road between Chalbury Corner and the Wyke Oliver Road junction included laying turf on the green area outside the shops at the corner. The area had been dug up to allow access to the start of the pipe, and I would not have been surprised if it had been left as a patch of bare earth, which with the winter rains - or summer rains, come to that - would soon have turned into a muddy hole. So all praise to the powers that be that made sure this wouldn't happen by laying the turf. All it needs now is some rain to bed it in - some of it is already turning brown.
  • FOR budding artists, or those wishing to brush up - sorry, no pun intended - on their technique, Sutton Poyntz water colourists art classes will be resuming on Friday, 10 October in the Mission Hall between 2pm and 4pm. The instructor is Roy Winstanley, a well known and respected local artist, and those who have taken part in his classes previously sing his praises. If you would like to take part, or for more information, give Roy a ring on 832215 or Maureen the Mill on 835533.
  • HARVEST Festival will be celebrated in St Andrew's Church on Sunday, 12 October at 10am. Gifts of fruit and vegetables with which to decorate the church will be most welcome, and should be taken along on the previous Saturday, 11 October, from 10am onwards. Gifts of bunches of flowers that can be distributed around the parish would also be gratefully received. These are always much appreciated by the housebound. Following the Harvest festival service there will be a hot two course lunch in the Church Rooms. You will need to get your tickets for this, at a cost of £6 (primary school children £3), as soon as possible as numbers will be limited. The tickets are available from Caroline on 832529 or from the Team Office in the Church Rooms. All profits from the lunch will go to the Christian Aid Harvest Appeal.
