A PENSIONER has gone missing from his home in Weymouth, police said today.

Thomas Murphy, 81, was last seen at his home in sheltered accommodation on Sunday, and police are appealing for information.

Sergeant Tony Smith said Mr Murphy has lived at his address in Sedgefield Close, Westham, for the last two years.

He said: "He is somewhat of a reclusive and eccentric man and hardly ever leaves his home so this disappearance is totally out of character.

"We are concerned for his welfare as he is very old and we need to make sure he is safe and well as we don't believe that he's taking proper care of himself.

"We don't know of any nearby friends or acquaintances but we do know that he smokes heavily and likes an occasional drink.

"It's important that we hear from Thomas or anyone else who sees him or knows of his whereabouts."

Mr Murphy is white, 5ft 5ins and of thin build.

He is described as having poor mobility as he walks 'slumped over with a shuffling gait'.

He was last seen wearing a navy blue knee-length duffel coat/donkey jacket with black trousers and shoes and a baseball cap. He is of untidy appearance.
