REGENERATION plans are “no longer fit for purpose” just eight years after they were drawn up, a town council has said.
Ferndown Town Council said “the world has moved on” since the plans were drawn up in 2016 and signed off a year after.
Dorset Council’s leader Nick Ireland recently met with the town council and Dorset Council’s officers to discuss how Ferndown’s residents can be “placed front and centre” of the plans to reinvigorate the town.
The town council said: “The world has moved on since the plan was produced so it’s important both councils make sure any future plans for Ferndown are realistic, meet the needs of its residents, and are affordable in the current financial climate.
“Both councils have committed to work together to deliver improvements for the Ferndown community.
“Councillors from both Dorset Council and the town council will play a vital part in ensuring the engagement exercise is fully inclusive and that everyone has a chance to have their say, with Ferndown Town Council taking the lead on the process.”
Dorset Council pledged in July to continue to work with the town council on plans for the regeneration of the town centre but admitted there was no budget.
