  • THE next meeting of the Countrywomen's Club is on Wednesday, October 8 at 2.30pm in the village hall.

Mrs Geraldine Crowhurst will be demonstrating flower arrangements, and the title of her demonstration is A Fall of Flowers.

The competition will be a flower picture.

Everyone is most welcome to come along to meeting of the countrywomen's club.

The meeting following this will be on Wednesday, November 12 when Marion Periss will speak on the RSPB Weymouth Nature Reserves.

There will be a raffle and bring and buy.

The competition on that day will be a wild bird ornament.

The group enjoyed a talk in September from Richard Edwards, a television camera-man.

The competition was for a celebrity picture and the winner was Jean Tanswell.

The group also ran a cake stall at the carnival in the summer, and £160 was raised for club funds.

  • THE Royal British Legion women's section is to have a poppy appeal coffee morning in the village hall on Tuesday, November 11 at 10am.

Everyone is welcome.

  • BRENDA Pitfield reminds all old girls of Dorchester Grammar School (the Green School) that this year's reunion will be on Saturday, October 11 from 11am until 4pm at Broadmayne village hall.

Will everyone who is coming please bring a plate of food to share.

  • THERE will be an Autumn fair and coffee morning in aid of church funds on Saturday, October 11 from 10.30am until noon at the Drax Hall.

There will be cakes, coffee, produce, stalls and bulbs.

  • DO YOU enjoy singing? Are you aged between eight and 18?

A new singing group called Young Voices has just started in the parish church on Fridays from 5.15pm to 6pm.

All young people are welcome to come along.

  • AS PART of the Purbeck Film Festival, the Drax Hall committee is showing a film entitled Becoming Jane on Saturday, October 11 at 7pm in the hall.

The film is a portrait of Jane Austin, and stars Julie Walters, Maggie Smith, Anne Hathaway and James McVoy, and it has a beautiful setting in Ireland.

All ages are welcome.

Tickets cost £5, and this includes coffee or tea and homemade cakes. Tickets are available from Kath Jeeves on 01929 471175 or Sally Cheeseman on 471002.

  • DON'T forget to sort out all your unwanted items in readiness for the Pop in Place's jumble sale and mini auction on Saturday, October 18 in the Drax Hall at 2pm.
