WORTHY causes and small charities could benefit from a cash boost, thanks to Weymouth Sea Festival proceeds.

Festival chairman Pete Targett said this year's event raised £6,000 for charity donations and he is inviting people to apply for a share of the funds.

He said: "This year we want to help small charities and individuals with small good causes.

"We made a significant amount at the Sea Festival and thought it could benefit some worthy causes in November time. We're inviting people to apply to us with regard to getting some of the funds."

He added: "We've got a ceiling of £250 per applicant but it will obviously depend on what sort of thing it's for.

"Some individuals may just need £100 or so."

Applications should be made by post to 2 Keepers Cottage, Old Higher Lighthouse, Portland Bill, DT5 2JT.

The deadline for entries is October 24.
