Tuition by appointment can also be provided on a Friday afternoon. So if you have ever thought of copying your ancestors who repelled the French hordes at the battle of Agincourt, or would just like some gentle exercise in a non-competitive environment, give Peter a ring on 833794 or drop in on a Wednesday to learn more.
  • THE St Andrew's Mother's Union is a lively and active group, and take part in a varied range of activities in addition to their monthly meetings on the third Thursday of every month at 2.30pm in the Church Rooms. Having said every month, they did have to have a month off in August while essential maintenance was carried out to the Hall, but are now back and raring to go at their Thursday, 16 October meeting, at which the speaker will be Mrs. Norma Hird, who will be describing her years spent working in Uganda with her husband, Bishop Brian. The Group are also pledging their support to the Harvest Lunch on Sunday, 12 October, planning another St Andrew's tide hot lunch on Saturday, 27 November at 12.30pm in the Church Rooms and will be celebrating their Patronal festival towards the end of November. Festival tickets, at £5 each, and details will be available form Committee members early in November. If you would like to be part of the Mother's Union activities, do drop in on Thursday, 16 October at 2pm in the Church Rooms. You are sure of a very warm welcome.
  • I KNOW that a number of local residents are members of Weymouth Choral Society, and even more are supporters, so you will be interested to learn that their next concert will take place on Saturday, 18 October at TIME in Holy Trinity Church. The theme for this concert is a desire for a peaceful world, which opens up an interesting range of possibilities. The main work to be performed is a suite of five movements from the Armed Man by Karl Jenkins, which will be performed by the choir with an organ, trumpet and timpani reduction for dramatic emphasis. I am not sure what this means, so I will have to go along to find out! There will also be similar peaceful works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, at the 50th anniversary of his death, plus anthems by John Rutter. There are also plans for the Choral Society to be joined by a children's choir. Tickets cost £8, children under 16 free of charge, and are available from the web site, www.weymouthchoralsociety.org.uk , by phone on 01305 775644 or from the Weymouth Music Shop in Great George Street, Weymouth.
