Thousands of athletes will once again descend on the streets and seas of Weymouth as Ironman returns to the town.
The popular triathlon is today - Sunday, September 15 - and often sees athletes from all across the world taking part.
Triathletes will line up along the beach for a sea swim as they take on a one-loop 1.2-mile swim in a triangle formation, before heading into transition.
The bike course consists of a one-loop 56-mile ride through the rolling Dorset Countryside up north to King's Stag and back to Weymouth via Dorchester.
The two and a half loop 13.1-mile run course begins with a run from Lodmoor Country Park to the finish area near the Pavilion, along Weymouth's Esplanade - this provides a spectator friendly run course with support from family and friends.
A number of road closures will also be in place throughout the day.
Weymouth Road Closures:
- Preston Beach Road will be fully closed between Westerhall Road and Overcombe Roundabout from 4am to 6pm.
- A single lane of Greenhill from Westerhall Road down to King Street will also be used for the run course. This will allow for free-flowing traffic around this section.
- The Esplanade will be closed southbound between King Street and Westham Road between 6am and 7pm.
- The following roads will be closed from 6am to 7pm: Pavilion, Custom House Quay, Maiden Street, Helen Lane, East Street, and Belle Vue.
- The A353 will be closed eastbound from Preston, Weymouth, to Warmwell from 6.30am to 10.15am, the B3390 from Warmwell to Waddock Cross will be closed from 7am to 10.30am/10.45am on the latter stretch of the road.
- The A352 between Whitcombe and Dorchester will close between 8.30am and 1.30pm while Coombe Valley Road to Weymouth will shut from 8.30am to 1.45pm.
- Littlemoor Road will be closed eastbound from 6.30am to 1.45pm.
- Car Park closures:
- The Swannery Car Park will be open and accessible all week.
- Lodmoor Car Park will be closed from 7pm Tuesday, September 10 to 6pm Monday, September 16
- Lodmoor Coach Park will be closed from Sunday, September 8 at 5pm to Tuesday 17, September at 6pm
- Pavilion Front Car Park is closed from Wednesday, September 11 at 5pm to Monday, September 16 at 6pm
- Pavilion Rear Car Park is closed on Sunday, September 15
- Beach Car Park will also be closed on Sunday, September 15
Dorchester road closures:
The bike course goes along the B3143 Kings Road, Fordington, towards Max Gate and these roads will be fully closed between 8.30am and 1.30pm.
The Weymouth Household Recycling Centre on Preston Beach Road will also be closed all day due to the event.
