Weymouth Town Council is set to make a decision about the next five years’ worth of beachfront firework displays.
The Environment and Services Committee will make a decision at a meeting as to whether the annual Weymouth Beach firework display will continue from 2025 – 2030.
The proposed firework displays would take place on the five Mondays of the school summer holidays, with an additional display on November 5 – as usual.
The town council is also hoping to agree a five-year contract with a firework company for the displays.
The council has hosted the grand firework displays on Weymouth beach since 2019 (excluding 2020).
The events are free to attend and can bring in around 15,000 people.
Recently, people were asked to share their feedback on the 2024 firework displays with 370 out of the 492 responses stating that people thoroughly enjoyed the displays, 75 of which revealed that they would like to see fireworks return – but with lower noise.
Weymouth Town Council trialled lower noise fireworks in 2021 on every other Monday, however the lower volume displays have a much greater environmental impact than traditional fireworks according to the council
It is anticipated that each display will cost approximately £6,600 each, which includes first aid cover, security staff, hire of the firework vessel and a safety boat.
