A major emergency response saw a man airlifted after falling from a Dorset cliff.
It has been reported that a man came into difficulty whilst climbing up Westcliff on Portland, causing him to fall.
The man was rescued by the coastguard helicopter.
The coastguard search and rescue helicopter has been flying over Portland this afternoon accompanied by the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, additional coastguard rescue teams, Southwestern Ambulance Service and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Team have also been alerted.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to Martinscroft Road, Portland at 3pm today (September 19) after a man fell from the cliff while climbing.
“A crew from Portland and a technical rescue team from Weymouth attended and assisted other agencies, including the coastguard, who have extracted the casualty by helicopter. “
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent has been sent to a report of a man in difficulty on a cliff on the western side of Portland Bill today (September 19).
"The alarm was raised at about 2.55pm. Portland Bill and Wyke Coastguard Rescue Teams are attending. The South Western Ambulance Service and Dorset Fire and Rescue have also been alerted."
