The Vamps performed a sell out gig at the o2 Academy, Bournemouth which was jam-packed with nostalgia for long-time fans.
As the pop band consisting of singer Brad Simpson, guitarist, James Brittain-McVey, drummer Tristan Evans and bassist Connor Ball, embarked on their 10-year anniversary tour, their setlist was full to the brim with hits from their first album ‘Meet the Vamps.’
Not only was this a special show because of the milestone, but guitarist James Brittain-McVey is also originally from Dorset, and he had plenty of family and friends supporting him from the audience including his mum Karen.
Mid way through the show James exclaimed that it ‘felt good’ to be back in his hometown with lead singer Brad Simpson later adding ‘Bournemouth has always had such a special place in our hearts,’ which earned the pair plenty of cheers from the audience.
It is a well-known fact amongst fans of the band that lead singer Brad will perform anywhere but the stage and during a performance of ‘Can We Dance,’ the singer was up on the balcony running around and interacting with fans.
The venue was absolutely packed with queues trailing halfway down Boscombe high street before the doors opened - and as with any Vamps gig, everyone appeared to leave with a smile on their face.
Even if you’re not a fan of the band, there’s a 90 per cent chance that you will recognise one of their hits from ‘Wild Heart,’ ‘Oh Cecelia (Breaking My Heart) – a vamped-up cover of the iconic Simon and Garfunkel song, or ‘All Night.’
Much to fans delight the band even played ‘Jack,’ an unreleased song from their first album.
There is a great camaraderie between the band as they perform alongside each other, and you can tell that their friendship is genuine.
Each member even performs their own solos from guitar, piano and a three-minute ‘Chemicals’ drum solo by Tristan Evans
Support came from indie boyband Soap, as well as singer songwriter and internet personality Talia Mar – best known for her collaboration with Sigala on ‘Stay the Night.’
Soap on the other hand came onto the music scene in 2019, previously releasing two EP’s.
