An environmental group collected a ‘huge amount’ of litter over the weekend – some of which was more than 50 years old.
The Weymouth and Portland Marine Litter Project recently celebrated its third anniversary with a litter pick of the coast, followed by coffee and cake.
A spokesperson for the group said: “Thanks to everyone that turned out for our September Community event at Portland heights.
“It was a lovely way to mark our organisations third anniversary and after a busy morning we enjoyed a well-deserved coffee and cake.
“Despite looking clean when we headed out a huge amount was collected. Some of the litter was over 50 years old but will do a separate post on that.
“It was also sad to say goodbye to the volunteers from the Bibby who have joined us on our Portland litter picks over the past year as they will be moving away next month.”
The next litter pick will take place on October 27 which will be a ‘Halloween spooktacular’ on Weymouth South Harbour.
