HI EVERYONE! I’m your new correspondent for Portesham, Buckland Ripers, Waddon, Friar Waddon, Little Waddon and Coryates. Please let me have your news of forthcoming events, reports of events which have recently taken place and any updates on progress of your clubs, organisations and action groups. If you were able to supply a photo of that event it would be great.

Please email me or telephone me with all your news. Buckland Ripers – I need a contact from your village!

Lastly, great thanks go to Liz Draper who has provided excellent and lively reports from the villages over many years.

  • HARVEST supper was enjoyed by 72 people who sat down to a delicious lasagne and salad followed by apple pie and ice cream organised and cooked by the Portesham WI. The St Edmunds Players from Bridport provided the entertainment afterwards with a selection of songs from Oliver. Some £160 was raised for the New Playground Appeal.
  • VILLAGE Cafés in Portesham Village Hall have become a regular event and a grand place to meet up with villagers for a coffee and a natter. The first café was organised by the WI back in January on a Saturday morning between 10am-noon and has become a firm favourite for locals from around the area. Each club/organisation in the village takes it in turn to organise and each café differs slightly according to the club in charge. The format usually is coffee, bacon butties and cake for refreshment whilst chatting with friends and some stalls, ie bric-a-brac, tombola, raffle, occasional background music, produce, etc. with a regular book stall for sale and return books at 50p each. Some clubs raise money for their own funds, others for a charity of their choice.

The Friends of St. Peter’s recently held a café that was very well attended and raised £314 after expenses, for their funds.

And at the latest cafe, the ladies’ section of the RBL organised a café with some new ideas on money raising, which again was very well attended and a generous sum will be forwarded to the Poppy Appeal.

Thanks must go to the villagers and local friends for supporting these events and helping to raise money for some worthwhile causes.
