TWO young cats have been found dumped inside a sealed container in Littlemoor, Weymouth.

The animals were sealed inside the taped-up litter tray and abandoned in Teddy Bear Woods.

They are now recovering under RSPCA care – and staff are urging anyone with information on the animals to come forward.

A member of the public stumbled across the hooded litter tray in an area used predominantly by dog walkers on Monday.

The two young tabby and white cats were sealed inside the tray with sellotape, along with an empty bowl and a towel.

They were taken to the West Dorset RSCPA Rescue Centre at Kingston Maurward in Dorchester, where they are now recovering.

Centre manager Lisa Samways said the duo – named Ian and Lacey by staff – are still a bit jumpy and nervous following the ordeal.

“Sadly we are getting more and more animals dumped in this manner,” she said. “People are struggling with the credit crunch and cannot afford the vet bills.

“Obviously we do not have that choice. We can’t say we can’t afford it, we have to get on and treat the animals, because unfortunately it’s them who suffer.

“I would just urge the public to think long and hard about getting pets. They cost more money than you think to look after properly.”

Lisa said the cats – one male, one female – are both un-neutered and in good bodily condition, suggesting they have been well looked after in the past.

She added: “In order for the RSPCA to be able to rehome them, we need to hear from the owner or someone who might know the cats, so we can find out the story behind the abandonment.”

Anyone with any information should call the centre on 01305 259672.
