A TEENAGER was taken to hospital after she was in a collision with a cyclist while crossing a road on Portland.

The 18-year-old girl, from Portland, was crossing the road near the Britannia Inn, Fortuneswell, when the crash with the 51-year-old male cyclist, from Weymouth, happened at 5.15pm yesterday.

The collision sparked tailbacks on Portland and along the beach road to Ferrybridge.

A police spokesman said the cyclist and teenager’s injuries were ‘not life threatening’ although both were shaken up by the crash.

He said: “Two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle also attended.

“Both the pedal cyclist and the pedestrian were lying in the road.

“Both were taken to Dorset County Hospital.”

The marine section of Dorset Police, which is based on Portland, attended in a jeep and the road was closed for 10 minutes.

Traffic was backed up along Portland Beach Road, although both lanes were moving again within an hour.

In another rush-hour collision, two cars crashed in Dorchester Road, Weymouth.

Lead paramedic for South Western Ambulance Service James Ryan said the collision happened at about 4.30pm and involved a Jeep and a Fiesta near the Kingsley Court residential home.

He said an elderly couple was in one car and an elderly man was in the other. No one required hospital treatment.

Two paramedic rapid response vehicles, along with an ambulance crewed by paramedics and a fire crew attended.
