EVERY DAY throughout the summer we will be talking to people about what makes this area so special. Today, Hazel Billingsley tells why she keeps coming back to Weymouth, the resort she first visited as a child...

Hazel Billingsley has been coming to Weymouth every year for longer than she can remember.

“I used to come with my mum and dad when I was younger.

“We had so much fun that I decided when I had children I would bring them here.”

Hazel, 61, is on a week’s holiday with her husband Ray, 67, her son Wayne, 34, his wife Claire, 41 and their daughter Katie, 14.

The family, from Coventry, are staying in Weymouth and love everything about the town.

“We love strolling along the beach and the Esplanade.

“It’s so clean and the views are amazing. There is such a lovely atmosphere down here, the people are friendly and everyone always seems to be smiling.

“Over the years we have visited lots of places around Dorset.

“We have been to Lulworth Cove which is beautiful, and also to Durdle Door, Swanage and Portland. We haven’t been out as much this year but, if the weather isn’t very nice, we all get into the car and go somewhere for the day.”

Hazel has fond memories of the area growing up.

She said: “I used to come down with my family. We would bring lots of windbreaks and buckets and spades and it would be a big family event. Everything about Weymouth reminds me of family and all the happy times we have had down here. I’m sure we will keep coming here for a long time yet.”
