Langton Herring

THE MONTHLY village lunch is reaching its first birthday

I was delighted to attend this real village event on Tuesday, September 29.

Even more delighted to be offered a glass of wine or sherry on arrival, which unfortunately I had to decline as I was driving.

Langton Herring village lunches would not have been possible without generous financial help from the Dorset Partnership for the Older Person Partnership (POPP).

The village hall kitchen had been condemned for such occasions.

The Langton with help from Lottery funding and the Chesil Bank Parish Council had refurbished the village hall.

With funding from POPP they were then able to equip the kitchen to modern hygiene standards.

About 26 residents gathered for a delicious lunch cooked by two retired professional gentlemen of the village, Michael Killoch and Martin Fielding.

They surpassed themselves with a menu of coq au vin and apple and blackberry crumble, the fruit for which they had gathered from around the village.

Sheila Milton with Jan, Penny and Merle are the organisers of these successful events, which are for Langton village residents only.

In attendance was Peter Lindsay from Age Concern with all the information for older residents’ i.e. those over 50.

Langton Village Hall Committee is now looking to upgrade the toilet facilities.

Let’s hope they can raise the funding for this project too.
