I was saddened but not surprised to see that Weymouth Football Club is to be placed into administration.

Hopefully, the club will somehow survive this process and then rebuild. If this happens, then Aldershot is a good example to follow, even though their fall many years ago was from a higher level.

Through patient commitment, they have worked their way back up through the leagues.

Ian Ridley and others have worked hard to prevent what, with hindsight, was inevitable.

But, and without implying individual blame, this situation would probably never have arisen had Mr Ridley not started the process of attempting to attain the unattainable.

The fact is that the club was in a much sounder position under Geoff Butler's management than it is now or is likely to be for some considerable time.

I do hope Weymouth might return just as Aldershot have. Good luck to them.
