THE self-styled ‘Black Farmer’ will be dropping into Kingston Maurward College near Dorchester to inspire young students with his extraordinary story.

Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, a prospective parliamentary candidate for the Conservative Party, will give a lecture at the college on how he rose from a humble background to become a successful businessman, farmer and television producer.

Jamaican born Mr Emmanuel-Jones, who is due to contest the Chippenham seat in next year’s General Election, will also be sharing farming secrets as he meets the 80 college students at the event on Monday, November 16.

Despite being raised in inner-city Birmingham, Mr Emmanuel-Jones realised a lifetime ambition when he bought a small farm in Devon 10 years ago.

With his Black Farmer food label offering a range of sausages, bacon and chicken, Mr Emmanuel-Jones has championed the cause of British farmers and the need to buy locally.

Animal care lecturer Mark Hymas, who is organising the visit, said he hoped Mr Emmanuel-Jones would prove to be an inspiration for the Kingston Maurward students.

He said: “The students will hear how he overcame his humble background to now own one of the most successful brands in the country.

“He is a fantastic role model and shows them anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”
