In the ’70s Portland had independence - now Weymouth Council has had its day.
People of Portland no longer want to be associated with the Weymouth and Portland Borough Council!
We have roads on the island in disrepair that our council tax payments don't seem to be able to cover. We have councillors voting on new builds when the people of Portland protested against them.
Take for instance the officers field and the proposed Tesco - the latter already changing the conditions of their trading.
The Olympics are constantly being billed as coming to Weymouth and the sailing events will be held in Weymouth harbour. Portland is fast losing any recognition for all the achievements we have made over a great number of years.
We think, with a proper team, the problems of Portland can be righted.
A facebook petition has been started and support is growing, I think, showing the apathy the people of Portland have for Weymouth and Portland council.
We need to be under the direct watch of the West Dorset District Council.
