WITH great regret Peter and Ann Martin have made the decision to retire on Saturday, February 6 when the Post Office in Portesham will close.

A very sad day for Portesham to lose our Post Office but we all wish Peter and Ann every success and happiness in their retirement and thank them for all their services to the village over the past 21 years.

  • A COURSE being held in Portesham Village Hall by Dorset County Council road safety team will take place on Wednesday, January 27 starting at 10.00am.

The “Refresh your driving skills” course is a three-hour presentation, free to attend, and aims to give drivers of all ages and experience an opportunity to update and improve their skills and knowledge.

No driving is involved on the day, however details of a practical 90 minute course will be available and if interested, please book your place by contacting Dorset County Council’s road safety team by email at roadsafety@dorsetcc.gov.uk or phone 01305 224267.

  • AS THE January meeting of the Portesham WI was cancelled due to bad weather, a reminder that the first get together of the Craft Group will commence on Thursday, January 21 at 2.30 - 4.00pm in the Ron Doble room in the village hall.

  • THE FIRST Village Café for 2010 opens the doors at 10.am in the village hall on Saturday, January 30, this time organised by the Chesil Bank Pre-School.

You are invited to join them and support your pre-school for a delicious continental or full English breakfast, bacon roll or maybe a slice of cake and a cuppa.

There will be fun and games for all including junk modelling, play dough corner, painting, tombola, raffle, cakes and more.

Also the local Neighbourhood Watch team will be available to offer advice and help where needed plus the now popular village library with books for all ages, so come along, banish the winter blues and have some fun, chat and relax while you enjoy the variety of refreshments on offer.

  • AN EARLY reminder that the popular “Fish ‘n’ Chip Supper” is being held on Tuesday, February 16 in the village hall and tickets will be available from Liz Draper on 871316 at £7.50 each and non fish eaters can be catered for if they notify Liz when buying their tickets.

Also to be included in the evening is the “Pancake Tosser of the Year” competition, which proved very popular last year plus a new category which I shall let you know more of with any further details shortly so keep watching this space!
