GOOD causes are set to benefit as the Mayor of Weymouth and Portland distributes donations from her Christmas Appeal.

Councillor Anne Kenwood has asked the borough’s Lions club to help her hand out the £2,000 raised from the latest festive fundraiser.

Coun Kenwood paid tribute to all of those who made donations.

She said: “I am delighted at the tremendous success of the appeal this year.

“Considering the hard times we have all experienced in some way or another, it’s overwhelming that again residents and businesses in the borough continue to recognise the difference a fund of this kind can make.

“I’d like to thank them for their generosity.

“The funds raised are already being put to work benefiting local people who need a helping hand.

“I am very grateful to Weymouth and Portland Lions Club for administering the fund for me again this year.”

Meanwhile the mayor is inviting people to dance the night away at a charity ball at Weymouth Pavilion Ocean Room on Friday, March 19, at 7.30pm.

All proceeds will go to the mayor’s selected charities – the Weymouth and Portland District Scouts and the League of Friends of Weymouth and Portland Hospitals.

The dress code for the evening is semi-formal. There will be a full bar and bar meals available. A raffle will be held during the evening.

Coun Kenwood said: “I expect the ball to be a fantastic evening as we have the pleasure of it being hosted by two of the most popular dance leaders, Sid and Roz Gateley. All styles and abilities will be catered for, so come along and join me on this special occasion.”

Tickets, priced £7, are available from Council Offices, North Quay, Weymouth DT4 8TA or cheques made payable to The Mayor’s Charity Account can be sent to the Mayor’s secretary as above. Include your name and the address of where you would like tickets to be sent.
