A SCHOOL pupil has been rewarded after coming up with a name for a series of new nightclub events for Dorset youngsters.

Dorset authorities tasked young people in the county to think of a catchy monicker for the forthcoming alcohol-free club nights.

Youngster Ellie Cheeseman, 10, triumphed after choosing the name ‘Zero Zone’ and has now been recognised for her efforts.

Dorset Police, North Dorset Dist-rict Council and the Youth Inclusion Support Panel (Yisp) are launching the new events. They asked young people to dream up a name and Ellie, from Buckland Newton near Dorchester, conjured up Zero Zone.

She was presented with a special certificate and letter of thanks by Dorset Police for her efforts.

Zero Zone is now the official name for the new nightclub events, which are open to youngsters aged between 11 and 16.

PCSO Shelley Brady-Conolly, of the Dorset Police safe schools and communities team, is helping to organise the events.

She will be joined by North Dorset District Council anti-social behaviour reduction officer Melissa Fear and Yisp representatives at the Zero Zone nights.

PCSO Brady-Conolly said: “We can’t thank Ellie enough for her Zero Zone name.

“She has come up with a really great name and a brand that we can use to improve youth services across the county.

“Zero Zone gives partnership agencies the opportunity to engage with young people and build important relationships, while also giving the youngsters something fun to do in a safe environment.”

Youngsters attending the club nights will be breathalysed for booze to check whether entry into Zero Zone will be granted.

Any young clubbers found to have alcohol in their system will be refused entry and dealt with by Dorset Police.

Officials from Dorset Youth and Community Service, Dorset Exten-ded Services and Shire Alcohol and Drug Outreach Service (Shadows) will also be in attendance.

The scheme kicks off at Tiffany’s nightclub in Blandford on Wednesday, April 7.

The night runs from 6.30pm until 10pm and entry is £5, which includes up to four non-alcoholic drinks.
