A MAN was killed in a horror smash on the coast road just outside Weymouth.

A man and a woman were also seriously injured in the two-car crash on the B3157 between Weymouth and Portesham yesterday afternoon.

All three casualties are believed to be from the Weymouth area.

A sports car and a black Ford Fiesta registered to Weymouth residents were involved in the accident that happened at around 4.45pm on the stretch of road known as Bramdon Lane. The man who suffered fatal injuries was driving one car and the other vehicle was occupied by the man and woman who suffered serious injuries.

Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Both casualties were taken to hospital. The woman was taken by police helicopter and the man was taken by road ambulance.

Police got a call from a member of the public at around 4.45pm informing them of the collision that happened near the turning to Rodden and Langton Herring.

At the scene Inspector Eddie Henley said: “This is a two vehicle collision with one fatality.

“There was one vehicle where the one male occupant received fatal injuries. “The other vehicle had two casualties with injuries that are serious but not believed to be life threatening.”

Crime scene investigators were studying tyre marks on the turning for Cheese Lane just 200 yards from the accident.

Drivers trying to get home at rush hour approaching the turning were forced to turn around and head back towards Chickerell.

Colin Thomas, 52, who lives in Cheese Lane described the road as a ‘race track’.

He spoke about how the road is notorious for crashes.

He said: “The amount of times you hear them screeching up here. This road is just like a racetrack.

“A poor kid got killed on a motorbike just two years ago and people still put flowers there. There has been another really bad accident since too. It’s such a shame. You can get killed just coming out of that turning.”
