NEW YORK, Beirut, Sydney, Caracas, Dubai..... and now Dorchester.

A superstar DJ is coming to the county town for the Casterbridge Christmas Cracker night as part of a world tour.

Top trance DJ Judge Jules will be performing at town nightclub Klimax on December 2.

Radio 1 star Jules will be playing a set some time between 9pm and 2am, which organisers say is a real coup for the town.

Co-owner Julie Edwards said: "Judge Jules is a DJ more used to playing to thousands in club land. This is a really big one for our small county town."

Judge Jules has been named as one of the world's top 10 DJs and regularly plays some of the biggest club nights in the UK and around the globe.

Said to be the largest crowd-puller on the club circuit, he has been called The People's DJ by the music press. His Saturday evening Radio 1 show, which has been running since 1997, regularly gets more than two million listeners a week.

Judge Jules is the latest in a line of big-name DJs to play Klimax. In July fellow Radio 1 DJ Anne Savage played a number of dates at the club, followed in September by the Lisa Pinup.

Earlier this month Ibiza favourite Lisa Lashes played at the club's Get Lashed Night.

Ms Edwards, 24, said: "The really good news is that Dorchester's clubbers no longer have to travel far and wide to see top-line international superstar DJs on the decks. And Klimax is planning to bring more top DJs in 2005 including Dave Pearce from Radio 1's Dance Anthems and Pete Tong of Essential Selection fame."

Klimax opened in May this year following a £150,000 refit

The club, formerly known as Liberty's, has two floors, which boast low ceilings, plasma televisions and leather armchairs and sofas, and hosts hundreds of clubbers each Thursday, Friday and Saturday night with a mix of retro, dance and drum and bass.

* Tickets for Judge Jules are available on the door for £15 or in advance, costing £12, from Klimax, the Limelight Club, Streetwear in Weymouth and House of Kings in Dorchester.
