Dorchester have cancelled the contract of errant former Weymouth defender Michael Walker.

Magpies boss Mark Morris finally lost patience with the 20-year-old he once rated as definite Football League material and showed him the Avenue Stadium door after he missed the coach for Saturday's Nationwide Conference South trip to Eastbourne Borough.

At the start of the season Walker, who made 64 first team appearances for the Magpies after joining them from the Terras in 2002, was at the centre of a row with team-mate Jamie Brown on a team bonding weekend in North Devon which came to blows.

"It wasn't just Saturday," said Morris after revealing that Walker's contract had been cancelled by mutual consent when he met the player before last night's

2-1 win over Weston-super-Mare in the Carthium Cup.

"From my point of view there have been a catalogue of incidents that have happened in the last 12 months and it has gone one step too far,

"It is a shame because the lad could be a fantastic player, but at the end of the day you can only work with people who are prepared to give something back.

"I think he has failed on a couple of occasions and let me and his team-mates down. You have to make strong decisions as a

manager and I just believe the discipline of the side would have been breached if I hadn't gone for that. It is something I don't like doing but you have to make a stand.

"I think he probably can go on to a higher level but he has to make that decision. He has the potential to be a very good player but unfortunately at this moment in time he is not mature enough to quite grow up.

"I have told him he is not in my future plans, but we will keep an eye on the situation because nothing is forever."

Morris said he was pleased with last night's debut of Italian keeper Rocco Bacchini, who stood in for the injured Craig Bradshaw.

The former Pompey man is due to visit a fracture clinic today to assess the damage to his hip and ankle caused in a collision with Eastbourne's Scott Ramsay on Saturday.

"He was a bit tight to start with but then handled what he had to do well and didn't let anyone down," said Morris. "We will see what happens with Craig today, but I would have thought I will be calling on Rocco again on Saturday."

Morris described his side's performance against Weston as "average".

"However, on Saturday I thought we were excellent and got beat, so I will take it when it comes like that," he added.

* Former Dorchester striker Juan Ugarte, who has signed non-contract forms for Wrexham, made his debut for the Welsh club in their LDV Trophy win over Stockport County at the Racecourse Ground last night.

The Basque attacker, who scored six goals in seven games for the Magpies before going on trial with the Coca-Cola League outfit,

went on as a 74th minute substitute and was close to opening his account on several occasions as Wrexham won the second round tie 2-0.
