KICKER James Mikolajewski was the hero for Wimborne as his 12-point haul sealed a fine 17-0 victory in the Powergen South West Two East derby clash with Oakmeadians.

After last season's whitewash, it was sweet revenge for Wimborne as their pack dominated the game to allow Mikolajewski to plunder three penalties and a drop goal to add to Dave O'Bryan's first-half score.

Wimborne wingers Ben Rumble and Brad Nash were a prominent source of danger while Oaks were unable to find their usual fluency.

Thie cause was not helped when captain Hayden Hokianga and influential full-back Jeremy Cook were forced off with injuries early in the second half.

Nash was perhaps the catalyst for the opening score of the game after 10 minutes as he was just caught when heading for the try line and kocked on from the tackle.

But Wimborne hooker Marcus Atkins won possession against the head and O'Bryan was on hand to plough through the defence to score.

The otherwise faultless Mikolajewski missed the conversion but made amends when he slotted over from 25 metres soon afterwards as Oaks were caught offside.

As half-time approached, Oaks at last found some rhythm with a swift passing move only for the normally clinical Francois Van Schwalkwyk - the league's top try scorer - to inexplicably lose the ball with the line at his mercy.

James Payne also went close to finding some points for the visitors but he was pulled down near the line after a long sprint for home.

After the turnaround, it was Wimborne who gained the upper hand once again thanks to more effective work from Mikolajewski's boot.

He made no mistake with a 50 metre penalty and then did the damage again with just 10 minutes left on the clock.

Despite a gallant last push from Oaks, it was the Wimborne centre who had the final say in the closing moments as he clipped over a sweet drop-goal to complete a deserved victory for his side.
